Masterclass in Foley

Two sound women, Foley Artist Caoimhe Doyle and Foley Mixer Jean McGrath will present a Foley workshop revealing many movie sound secrets, including breaking bones and screeching tyres!

The Foley Lab is a dedicated Foley studio located on a quiet country estate in County Wicklow. They have worked together on many projects over the past 20 years, creating Foley sound effects and footsteps for film, television and video games.

Credits include: Evil Dead Rise, An Cailín Ciúin, Normal People, Game of Thrones, The Favourite, Killing of a Sacred Deer, Conversations With Friends, Room and many more.

In 2023, Caoimhe was nominated for a MPSE Golden Reel Award for her work on An Cailín Ciúin, also in 2018, for The Favourite, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and again in 2008 for David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises.
Caoimhe won a MPSE Golden Reel Award and was nominated for an Emmy for Game of Thrones: Season 1 in 2011.

Jean McGrath is an award winning mixer with over 20 years as a Foley recording mixer, ADR mixer and Sound Editor. In 2023 she was a member of the sound crew who were nominated for a MPSE Golden Reel Award for An Cailín Ciúin. In 2018, Jean was nominated for a MPSE Golden Reel Award for her work on The Favourite, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. She was also on the sound crew nominated for an Emmy, IFTA and won a MPSE Golden Reel Award for Game of Thrones: Season 1 in 2011.
